Eyes and Ears Of A Casino

By Graeme • May 18th, 2009

I was walking around a casino recently and noticed many guests arriving at a closed bar looking for a drink. I wondered if this was a trend that surveillance could have picked up if they were not so busy protecting casino assets. Surveillance departments are the “Eyes & Ears” of a casino and if they can be given the right tools and incentive it would be interesting to see the results over time.  I read an interesting article by Bill Zender and Willy Allison regarding amongst other things the function of surveillance departments and the value that good logging sofware can add to a surveillance operation. The entire article can be found at World Game Protection and is a worthwile read. According to Herbert Simon, “a wealth of information creates a poverty of attention”. Do you think that with the right tools and incentives, surveillance departments could go beyond just “protecting casino assets” to adding value to customers and casino owners?
